The ECESS is proud to host the second annual student and alumni networking evening.
This event is targeted at current ECE students in 3rd and 4th year and ECE alumni.*
We want to provide students and alumni with great networking opportunities while fostering good relations with alumni and our department. The event aims to help students proactively plan their futures by encouraging the building of their network, gaining networking abilities, and learning about the kinds of local career opportunities that exist from UBC ECE alumni.
The evening will also feature a speaker who will prepare students for networking by offering some helpful advice. Students can except to learn types of questions to ask when networking, how to join conversations and how to seek out opportunities.
All students are encouraged to attend, the evening is sure to be fun and informative. With their ticket, 1 beverage will be included as well as light appetizers. Ticket cost is $10/person and the event will take place at Ceili’s pub in Kitsilano.
All Engineering alumni are welcome regardless of discipline and are encouraged to bring a guest! This is a great chance to share stories, give advice and get to know some of the current students in ECE!

Networking tips for students

All students, with entrance to the evening, will partake in a networking workshop! This gives students the opportunity to learn some networking skills and gain valuable advice in their career development.
We’re very excited to have Brent Lyon speak in our Student Networking Workshop!
Brent is a National Practice Leader, Engineering & Technical, at David Aplin Group.
Brent is a Professional Engineer specializing in senior and executive engineering and technical placements in British Columbia. He’s been with the David Aplin Group for the better part of a decade, and brings nine years of experience in technical sales, contract negotiation and project management, as well as a wealth of valuable knowledge of B.C.’s industries to his recruiting role, especially in the mining, power and pipeline sectors. He is also the National Practice Leader of DAG’s Engineering & Technical Team across Canada, leading a team of sixteen E&T specialist recruiters in ten offices. Specialties: Placing senior engineers and executives in the mining, infrastructure and energy sectors – especially with coal and base metal mining operations, green power projects and LNG pipelines in BC.
*Please note, this event is specifically targeted at upper year students, though 2nd years expressing interest in the event are able to attend.
